Thomas & Thomas Court Reporters and Certified Legal Video, LLC is a court reporting firm located in downtown Omaha, Nebraska. We provide court reporting, legal video and trial presentation services throughout Nebraska and Iowa. On or about March 11th, Nebraska and Iowa started experiencing severe flooding, which continued for approximately 2 weeks. As a result of said flooding, Nebraska alone has sustained 1.5 billion dollars in damage to farms, businesses, residents and infrastructure. This has been the largest natural disaster in Nebraska history, with 74 of Nebraska’s 93 countries having declared a state of emergency.
As a court reporting firm that serves the rural communities of Nebraska and Iowa, these floods have caused a lot of logistical issues for Thomas & Thomas. The main north/south thoroughfare from Omaha to cities like Sioux City and Le Mars, I-29, remains closed and is not anticipated to reopen for months. The main east/west thoroughfare from Omaha to cities like Fremont, Waterloo, and Wahoo remained closed for weeks or remain unpassable. Depositions have been cancelled. Hearings have been delayed. Witnesses could not make it to depositions.
Even though the flooding has interrupted our working schedule, this inconvenience is nothing in comparison to the thousands of residents, farmers, and businesses that lost everything from this devastating flood. We are very grateful Omaha was spared, but our hearts and minds go out to the great people of Nebraska and Iowa that have lost so much.
