National Network of Reporting Companies Sets the Standard for a Greener
Court Reporting Profession
The National Network of Reporting Companies
(NNRC) has formed a Green Commission that plans to lead its group of
prominent independent court reporting firms to, collectively, become the
first and only green certified court reporting network in the world.
The NNRC Green Commission is paving the way to create sustainable
working environments and promoting the Green Movement.
“As responsible and concerned citizens of the
world, it is our duty and responsibility to help preserve and protect
our environment for the generations who will follow. We are
fortunate to belong to an organization and profession that can, and
will, have a significant impact in furthering this fight,” explains
William Fredericks of Fredericks Reporting in Austin, Texas, Chair of
the NNRC Green Commission.
The court reporting field utilizes enormous
amounts of paper each year to print transcripts of depositions and other
legal documents. The NNRC Green Commission’s goal is to come up with
requirements for all of its court reporting members to ensure
environmentally responsible practices.
“The public may not know exactly how much of
an impact this decision will have on the environment,” said Mason
Farmani, Member of the NNRC’s Board of Directors and Green Commission
and COO of Barkley Court Reporters. “Just by making the simple
conversion to post-consumer copy paper, Barkley alone has saved 7.2
forty-foot-high trees, 2,100 gallons of water, 1,230 kw hours of
electricity and 18 pounds of air pollution for every 40 cases of paper
we use each year. You can imagine what kind of a cumulative impact
the NNRC will have on our environment with its more than 50 firm members
nationally and abroad.”
The mission of the NNRC Green Commission is
to certify every one of its members as an official Green Business. They
will implement several significant and revolutionary changes in the
industry, including:
-
Purchasing and using environmentally friendly supplies and
products, such as refillable toner cartridges and post-consumer
content paper,
-
Increasing waste diversion by recycling all paper, bottles and
cans,
-
Purchasing Energy Star-rated office equipment and appliances,
-
Conserving fossil fuels by encouraging the use of public
transportation by all employees,
-
Encouraging their attorney clients to securely access their
transcripts and exhibits via the web instead of traditional paper
delivery.
“These changes are only some of NNRC’s
requirements for making meaningful changes within the industry to help
fight global warming,” stated Duane O’Geil, NNRC’s President and CEO of
Independent Reporters, Inc in Calgary/Edmonton, Canada.
About
the National Network of Reporting Companies
In 1983, five of the leading firms in the court reporting
industry joined forces to better service the needs of the legal
community. Through shared knowledge, management techniques and
innovative services, these companies are able to provide the highest
quality of services to their clients. Since that time, over 50-plus of
the top firms have joined the National Network of Reporting Companies
(NNRC), the most prestigious independent court reporting firm network in
the world.
The National Network of Reporting Companies (NNRC) is comprised
of the most customer-oriented, technologically advanced court reporting
firms in the world. The independently owned and operated firms are all
proven, experienced, capable, technologically adept, and committed to
professionalism. Each knows their market, and their members come highly
recommended by both clients and peers for integrity, timeliness and
accuracy. Expectations for membership are high. Each firm is required to
meet stringent criteria for state-of-the-art technology in reporting,
professionalism and other attributes that benefit their clients. Every
